Popular Nigerian  comedian Francis Agoda, popularly known as I go dye was made United nations Millennium Development Goal Ambassador by the Global Educators for all Initiative.

According to a citation read when he was bestowed with the honour, the organizers said it “is in recognition and mandate to continue to facilitate the realization of the United Nations (MDGs).”
The Initiative is a global recognition to individuals who have championed and enhanced through their work, the overall development of humanity, based on selfless services, creativity and compassion towards human development.
The United Nation MDG Ambassador role came with a customized vehicle plate number: MDG AMB 7K Ambassador, and international identification card and an honorary plaque.
In his speech, the brilliant humour merchant who is seen as one of Africa’s funniest men, said:
“I feel honored with this honor, but it will be more gratifying to me, when I will see that our leaders create opportunities for youths to be gainfully employed, because as at today, millions of Africans are suffering, and faced with uncertainties.
“The future seems with and no hope in sight. Until this personal desire of a better Africa is achieved, my heart knows no profound happiness; because someone is still sleeping without a meal. But with this recognition, it shows that my work is not in vain.
“I thank God for giving me this talent that is inspiring others and also to my fans all over the world that have been supporting me with their prayers and love. Without you, all these achievements won’t have been possible. May God bless you all.”

Saw this story some ours ago on linda's blog which got me asking if there's been an emergence of yet another virgin mary.

A salvadorean nun who was  said to have given birth in Italy this week said she had no idea she was pregnant. She was said to have been rushed to the hospital from her covenant after she felt a cramp in her stomach Italian media reported on friday.

The mother and baby are doing fine.

The nun was quoted as saying "I did not know i was pregnant. I only felt a stomach pain"

The question on the lips of the public is who got her preggy?

Obi to fly in Chelsea's jet to GLO/CAF awards

Chelsea's defensive mid-fielder and one of Nigeria's finest players, John Mikel Obi, will be flown by his club's jet to Nigeria for the upcoming GLO/CAF awards which holds tomorrow Thursday January 9th, 2014.
    “I am coming for the CAF awards, I will be flown in and out of Nigeria by the Chelsea jet. I will arrive on the          awards day and return immediately after,” Mikel told MTNFootball.com “It is an honour to be selected and            nominated for the award. I am looking forward to winning it for my country.” He also said.

The three nominees are John Mikel Obi, Yaya Toure and Diede Drogba. hope our Mikel makes us proud.

The comedian has since then deleted the post and apologized to his fans.

14 killed in China mosque stampede

BEIJING (AFP) – Fourteen people, some of them children, were killed and 10 injured in a stampede that broke out as food was being distributed at a mosque in China’s Ningxia region, state media reported Monday.
The stampede occurred at lunchtime on Sunday while traditional food items were being handed out to people attending an event to commemorate a late religious leader, the official Xinhua news agency said, citing the local government.
The injured were hospitalised, with four in critical condition, the brief report said.
One photo posted online by Chinese news outlets showed six bodies laid out side-by-side inside a building, with several children in colourful outfits among the dead.
“Those poor children,” wrote one poster.
Ningxia is one of China’s poorer regions, and other Internet users lamented its poverty.
“Are Chinese people so poor, for all this to happen over a piece of pastry?” asked one poster on Sina Weibo, a Chinese equivalent of Twitter.
Another added: “The Chinese people’s living conditions are so poor that they will do this for a few free cakes! Murder caused by a pie!”
Some Internet users displayed images of red candles online to commemorate those who died.
Others wondered what might have triggered such a large stampede. “It must be thoroughly investigated,” said one.

Presidency - GEJ performing better than Obasanjo

President Goodluck Jonathan has again taken a swipe at former President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying the ex-President left Nigeria in darkness after his tenure.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said this during an interview onSahara TV on Saturday.
During the interview, Abati responded to questions on the several issues involving the Presidency, and tongue-lashed the opposition for attacking the President on almost all issues.
On the proposed national conference, which was scheduled to hold this year, Abati praised the President, saying it would be better than the political reform conference that was organised by Obasanjo.
He said, “The last political reform conference, organised by Obasanjo failed. It ended up the discussion of tenure elongation and third term ambition.”
Abati faulted those who have questioned why Jonathan’s government scheduled the national conference to be held the same year the country is marking 100 years of amalgamation.
He said the celebration of Nigeria at 100 is not about the Jonathan administration, but a celebration by the private sector, the state and local government and all Nigerians.
On the power sector, Abati said power supply has become better in the country than it was in 2007 and 2010.
He also criticised those who have questioned Presidency’s budgetary allocation saying, “Everyone is involved in the budget- making process. Both the intelligent and the unintelligent. Even okada drivers have become budget analysts.
“Nigerians are concerned about corruption. [President Jonathan] too is concerned about corruption.”
Abati also accused the media of bias for the opposition.
“The media as we have it in Nigeria today is heavily in the hands of the opposition. Whatever the President says, they twist it,” he said.
He also praised Jonathan as the only president that has given Nigerians a road map.
“What he (Pres. Jonathan) has been able to do is historic. We have never had a president in Nigeria that presented Nigeria with a road map,” he said.
Obasanjo, however, said he would not join issues with the President and his aides. He said Jonathan is building on the foundations he laid while he was the President.
The ex-president, who spoke through his Chief of Staff, Mr. Victor Durodola, said he had said his mind in his letter to Jonathan and the President should accept his challenge in good faith.
Durodola said, “He (Obasanjo) doesn’t want to join issues with anybody anymore after that reply (President Goodluck Jonathan’s reply to the ex-president’s controversial letter); he really doesn’t want to.
“I would have told you that everybody knows that whatever it is that they are commissioning today, the foundation was laid when Obasanjo was President; everybody knows that. Most of the equipment came even before he left.
“But, as I said, he really does not want to (join issues with the presidency) at all. In one paragraph in his (Obasanjo’s) letter, he said he had done his duties to him (Jonathan) as a former president, as a former Board of Trustees Chairman (of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party) and as a citizen of Nigeria.
“It is left for him (Jonathan) to accept the challenge and do what is right.”

Man flogs cousin to death for eating bowl of rice

A 37 year-old-man by the name Kayode
Olubunmi was arrested by the Ogun state police for flogging his cousin to death on christmas day.

He allegedly flogged his 20-year-old cousin Haruna Adeoye to death for eating up a bowl of rice that was earlier brought for him by his friend.

Adeoye who is said to be an orphan allegedly ate the said bowl of rice despite his uncles instruction to reserve it for dinner.

According to reports, Olubunmi came back home drunk to find out his bowl of rice was gone. this resulted to flogging that claimed Adeoye's life.

In a statement made available to newsmen by the police P.R.O, Muyiwa Adejobi stated that the incident ocured by 10:30 pm on christmas day at Ajegunle, Ita-oluwo Ogijo in Sagamu local government area of the state.
